Let’s say you are one of the millions of music fans out there. What if one day you have the urge to stream some of your favorite songs to your iPad from your iTunes account? How do you do it? What are the necessary steps to take in order to achieve this? Keep reading to find out……
Before we begin the actual steps of this process, let’s discuss the main ingredients of the audio streaming recipe. First, you will need an iPad (thank you Captain Obvious.) Next, you will need a subscription of the MobileMe service. If you have the cash now, you can get MobileMe for one year for $99. If you are not ready to make that commitment yet, you can open up a two-month trial of the service for free. Third, you will need the iDisk app from the iTunes store. This is free and won’t hurt your pocket one bit. Finally, you must have some of your favorite songs picked out to execute the streaming experiment.
Step 1: Pick out the songs you want to stream. If they are in iTunes, you can select them and drag them right onto your desktop. If they are in a particular music folder on your computer, find them and drag and drop to the desktop.
Step 2: Activate a MobileMe account online via the mobileme.com website. Once finished, sign in with your credentials. When you are in MobileMe, look at the top left hand corner of the page for a small blue icon with a white cloud. Click on it, and from the horizontal pop up menu select the iDisk option (it’s one of six options you will be given.)
Step 3: Now that you are in iDisk, select the upload arrow (small white arrow pointing upward) at the top of the app’s window. A popup will appear that asks you to choose files to upload. Click the Choose button in the bottom right corner and pick the desired files. Once you select the files, a window will appear showing you the upload status. When the upload is finish, you should be able to find the song you uploaded in iDisk’s directory.
Step 4: Now, you need to install iDisk on the iPad. When that is finished, open up the app and sign in. You should see your audio files. Tap the one you want to listen to, wait a few seconds, and Quicktime will be playing your song.
There you have it. You now have a method to stream audio files to the iPad. One downside is that you cannot play playlists as of yet, but if you have a yearning to stream a song, now you can.
