According to MacRumors and Digitimes, there are indicators that Apple will be releasing a 2nd generation iPad in Q1 2011. Suppliers of touch panels and glass for the iPad are in the process of completing validation for Apple’s iPad encore, and the next version is likely to have a front-facing camera for users to conduct FaceTime video chats with other iOS mobile devices.
If FaceTime is, in fact, coming to the next iPad, it may open up a world of opportunities for integrating video sharing in gaming, education, business, social apps, and more — particularly because of the larger screen size of the iPad allowing more multitasking on-screen. Even though I’m the proud owner of an iPad 3G, having the 2nd generation iPad with a front-facing camera and FaceTime is very tempting to upgrade. My trusty iPad 3G may end up on eBay shortly after Christmas in order to make room for Apple’s next iPad. Are you tempted to upgrade?
